Terms of use
Last updated 24 September 2026
Draft for the testing phase. Parts in [square brackets] are filled in before launch, and the final text will be reviewed by a lawyer.
These terms are the agreement between you and [company name] (“we”) for using Obscura Classics. By creating an account you agree to them.
Your account
- You must be 16 or older.
- One account per person. Keep your sign-in details to yourself; you’re responsible for what happens on your account.
- Choose a username and picture that follow the community guidelines.
Membership
During testing, full access is free for the people we invite. Everyone else can read free samples and the community. When paid membership starts, its price, trial and cancellation terms will be shown before you pay, and you’ll be able to cancel at any time.
The books
The classic texts are in the public domain. Our editions, including the modernized text, introductions, notes and design, are our work: you may read and quote them, but not copy or republish them in bulk.
What you write
- You own what you write. You give us permission to show it on Obscura Classics (and in link previews when it’s shared) for as long as it’s on the site.
- Don’t post anything you don’t have the right to, anything unlawful, or anything that breaks the community guidelines.
- Links to other websites aren’t allowed in anything members write.
Moderation
Moderators may hide content and warn, mute, suspend or ban accounts that break these terms or the guidelines. You’ll be told what happened and why. If you think we got it wrong, write to [support email].
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Account. We may close accounts that seriously or repeatedly break these terms.
The service
We work hard to keep Obscura Classics running and your data safe, but the service is provided as it is, and it may change or occasionally be unavailable. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have by law as a consumer, or our liability where the law doesn’t allow it to be limited. Otherwise, we are not liable for indirect losses.
Changes and law
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we’ll tell you before it applies. These terms are governed by the law of [jurisdiction]. Contact: [support email].
